Larry Meyer - Roper and Sons (2024)

Larry Lee Meyer, age 81 of Greenwood, Nebraska, was called home to the Lord on Thursday, July 25th, 2024 at Bryan West Hospital surrounded by his beloved family.

Larry was born on July 25th, 1943 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Lawrence and Evelin (Bodtke) Meyer. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Jansen, Nebraska. He married the love of his life, Linda Jean (Stewart) Meyer, in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 21st, 1970. Together they had two sons, Brian Keith Meyer, Michael Shane Meyer and two stepsons Darin Lee Meyer and Robbie Lynn Meyer.

Larry attended Plymouth High School, where he graduated in 1960. During his time in high school, Larry exceeded in academics and athletics. He participated in football, basketball, and track – being a three-time state champion in football and earning his renounced title as “Tiger”. After high school, Larry joined the National Guard, where he proudly served his country for seven years as a cook. After leaving the service, Larry joined Burlington Northern in 1970. During his time at the railroad, Larry moved up the ranks and earned the title of Structural Supervisor. He also was a Union President for seven years, while also being a BWME officer. Larry would then retire from Burlington Northern after 30 years of hard work and dedication.

Larry also took a lot of pride in the Village of Greenwood, where he served on the town board for 16 years, while being a chairman for seven of those years.

The level of pride and joy that Larry got from his family was like no other. The deepest love that he had was for his wife, Linda. Larry and Linda had a passion for traveling, where they spent copious hours on the road together. They visited many places, but their fondest memories were at the Nascar races in Las Vegas, Nevada and Fort Worth, Texas; The Rose Bowl in Miami, Florida; and cruising down Highway 1 on the West Coast. Larry also loved traveling the Midwest to watch dirt track racing, with his favorite dynamic duo being his sons, Brian and Mike. Larry loved watching Mike drive his racecar while Brian was turning the wrenches. Watching his sons work together is a sight “you just can’t put a price on” as Larry would say. Larry did love this son, but he loved his three granddaughters even more. Whether he honking his horn after a good play at a softball game or spending the evening telling stories at a campsite, Larry’s cup was always full when he was spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry had the privilege to gain the title of great-grandpa to three great grandchildren. It warmed his heart to watch them grow, play, and give him kisses. Larry also had a serving heart for the Lord. He loved sharing his favorite bible verses and the workings of the Lord with his loved ones and friends. He also enjoyed a good discussion on politics. Even though he said it didn’t matter which side you belonged to, Larry would always find a way back to reiterate his viewpoints were the correct ones.

Larry is survived by his four sons; Darin, Robbie (Kelli), Brian and Mike (Melissa) ; four grandchild Ashley (Jacob), Kristen (Destyn), Paige (Daylen), and Bella; three great grandchildren Amberlynn, Walker, and Crew; and four granddogs Baby, Tanner, Blaney, and Remi. Larry is also survived by his survived by his siblings Leotta (Leon) TenHulzen, Linda (Bob) Kinghorn, and Leon (Rebecca) Meyer; along with his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Larry is proceeded in death by his wife of 49 years, Linda Meyer and his parents Lawrence and Evelin (Bodtke) Meyer. Leon…?? His virtue will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone Larry had the pleasure to interact with as well as those he reached out with and never met.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 30th, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the American Lutheran Church in Ashland, Nebraska. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church. Interment will then follow at the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery.

Visitational services for Larry Meyer will be held Monday, July 29th, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ropers & Sons Waverly Chapel, 10851 N. 148th Street in Waverly, Nebraska.
